Trump Wrongly Claims Iran Has Tomahawk Missiles When Asked About Iran School Strike
Released on 03/10/2026
[Presenter] US President Donald Trump has claimed,
without evidence,
that Iran possesses US-made Tomahawk missiles.
As it appears increasingly likely, the United States
was responsible for a strike near an elementary school
that killed around 170 people, mostly children.
Asked at a news conference, on Monday,
about the February 28th strike at Shajareh Tayyebeh School,
next to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval base,
in Minab, Southern Iran, Trump said:
And whether it's Iran, who also has some Tomahawks,
they wish they had more,
but whether it's Iran or somebody else,
the fact that a Tomahawk, a Tomahawk is very generic,
it's sold to other countries,
but that's being investigated right now.
[Presenter] The compound in Minab was struck
on the first day of US-Israeli strikes against Iran.
A video posted by the semi-official Iranian news agency,
Mehr, which was geolocated and verified by Bellingcat,
as well as the New York Times, NPR, and BBC News,
showed what appeared to be a Tomahawk missile
striking the site.
Tomahawk cruise missiles
are manufactured by US defense contractor, Raytheon.
While they have been sold to allies,
including the UK and Australia,
the US is the only participant in the war
known to possess them.
Photos from the scene's aftermath and satellite imagery
provide further evidence
that the US carried out multiple strikes on the site.
The US Department of Defense has published imagery
showing Tomahawk missiles being fired by the USS Spruance
during the war,
and a map published on March 4, by the Pentagon,
indicated that the Mihab Area
was among the locations it targeted.
An internet blackout
and strict restrictions on independent foreign media in Iran
make it difficult
to fully verify responsibility for the strike.
Officially, the US Military says it is under investigation,
but Trump continues to blame Iran.
Asked why he was the only person in his Administration
saying that Iran
used a Tomahawk missile to bomb its own school,
Trump says, I just don't know enough about it.
