Jar Of Nutella Floats Aimlessly Through Artemis II Spacecraft
As the four astronauts of NASA’s Artemis II mission approached the furthest point in space ever reached by any human during their lunar flyby, a surprising object photobombed the crew: a jar of Nutella.
With under four minutes to go from the historic landmark in human spaceflight, the Nutella drifted casually past mission specialist Christina Koch on a NASA livestream, remaining in frame for several seconds. This wasn’t AI or an example of some out-of-this-world product placement. The brand account for Nutella posted the footage on Instagram with the caption, “Honored to have traveled further than any spread in history.”
There’s no refrigeration for food onboard Artemis II’s Orion capsule, so NASA says every meal is carefully chosen to remain safe, be shelf-stable, and be easy to prepare and consume.
NASA has previously said there are 189 unique menu items available to the crew, including 10 different drinks such as green tea and mango-peach smoothies. The most common food items include tortillas, almonds and barbecued beef brisket. To keep things interesting, there are five different hot sauces available. And of course, at least one jar of Nutella.
The Artemis II crew is scheduled to splashdown off the coast of San Diego on Friday, April 10, at around 5 pm local time.
