Great White Shark Filmed By Diver In Mediterranean Sea
Divers recovering fishing nets from shipwrecks between Sicily and Tunisia captured what they say is the first-ever underwater footage of one of the Mediterranean’s most elusive predators: an adult great white shark.
A team led by the Healthy Seas Foundation was clearing so-called “ghost nets” from the Strait of Sicily when they encountered the shark, which was filmed by Ghost Diving volunteer Derek Remmers. Scientists with the team said the sighting was unusual and valuable, and that most evidence of great whites in the Mediterranean comes from animals caught or killed in fishing operations.
