Now that you’ve owned your Prius for a while, how are those repair costs? Our friend John Voelcker dives into this subject over at AllAboutPrius and noticed some surprising facts and trends.
He notes that repairing a Prius costs more than for cars of a similar size - 8.4% more to be precise. But the bulk of the added costs are borne by the earliest models. He attributes that to the fact there were fewer first-gen Priuses (or Priora, as some say the plural should be), so there are fewer parts available from recyclers - what the rest of us call junkyards. That requires Prius owners to get parts directly from Toyota, which makes for costlier repairs.
More interesting details over at AllAboutPrius.
