Robots are being used to clean up the worst nuclear waste sites.* Pop Mech *has a rundown of which machines are handling these nasty jobs. My favorite: the
Salt Mantis, which "can shoot water at up to 35,000 psi to blast tough toxic salts that build up inside nuclear waste tanks. The water jets from a tiny orifice made of gems, including sapphires—the only material that can (literally) stand up to the pressure."
The German military is also looking to load up on ground robots. So they "hosted a forum to showcase" more than twenty "unmanned vehicles from seven different countries."* Ares* has the pics, and a few details.
