We don't need to tell you that this hack will void your warrantee. Scorpiond, a member of the modmyifone forums, decided to beef up the output of his iPhone's speaker by sticking a needle into the holes in the case which cover the speaker:
Further reading of the thread finds that this operation loudens up the iPhone dramatically: Some posters claim a figure of 40%. Although this is subjective, it points to a decent increase, and it works by perforating a circle of plastic which sits between the speaker and the grille. A piece of plastic which is probably there to protect the innards of the Stupendabrick from dust and water. It's likely that some people won't care about that, though, as this eloquent post from the forum thread suggests:
